With only a day left until free agency, Jonathan Drouin has yet to be given a new contract. Colorado and Drouin are known to have mutual interest, the problem lies within financials. The Avs may not have the current salary cap space to afford Drouin. GM Chris MacFarland says, “We are cap-challenged, so there’s those competing factors. Both parties want to get it done, but finding that sweet spot is the challenge…I do think that Jonathan was great for us, but I also think the Avalanche were great for Jonathan as well. We’ll certainly stay in touch with Allan Walsh (Drouin’s Agent) through the weekend, and we’ll what happens.” H/T Evan Rawal
