A ray of sunshine falls on the Ark of Return Memorial, outside #UnitedNations Headquarters in #NYC. ⠀ ⠀ Designed by Rodney Leon, an American architect of Haitian descent, the Permanent Memorial to Honour the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade pays tribute to the courage of slaves, abolitionists and other unsung heroes. It's also an important reminder of the devastating and lingering consequences of the slave trade. ⠀ "Today, people of African descent continue to confront racial discrimination, marginalization and exclusion. The political, economic and structural power imbalances rooted in colonial rule, enslavement and exploitation still deny equality of opportunity and justice," said UN Secretary General antonioguterres on Friday's #RememberSlavery Day.
