Deborah and Kip, from the #Myanmar Ethnic Women Refugee Organization, conduct a virtual session with other refugee women to support survivors of gender-based violence, using their experience to empower and give voice to others in their community. “At first, it was very difficult, but I know if I don’t stand up and talk about my experience, how am I going to help my fellow refugee women who do not know where to share their problems?” explains Deborah. 1 in 5 displaced women have experienced sexual violence. Leaving everything behind, they are more vulnerable to becoming victims of abuse.
