Many of you guessed it! The meat was from a big ol ostrich! Again, I stand by that they’re the hardest animals to spot and stalk in Africa. It’s like an 8 ft tall turkey with eye balls the size of golf balls 😳. Every time we saw one, they would take off running when we got to 500 yards. The closest we got before this bird was 270 yards, using a black umbrella, but then he ran too. As for this bird, all the stars aligned for this situation to unfold. We spotted him right as the sun was coming up, which was directly behind us. So we were between the sun and the ostrich, basically making it difficult for him to see in our direction. So we got out the black umbrella and began moving in closer, and closer. We broke the 500 yard mark, and he still hadn’t ran! Then 300, then 200! We couldn’t believe it.
