On this day in history, the #26thAmendment was ratified into the Constitution. It lowered the voting age from 21 to 18, which established the right to vote for millions of 18 to 20-year-old Americans. Driven by the lowering of the draft age from 21 to 18, young people became increasingly vocal about being required to fight for their country lacking the ability to influence its policies and decisions. This sentiment inspired the movement's slogan, "Old enough to fight, old enough to vote." 💪 Although this landmark decision enfranchised millions of young voters, it did not provide a system of preparation for the youth to participate in democracy once they became eligible.
