The pandemic continues to exercise a powerful influence in our lives—and more exercise for the pandemic is translating into a lot less exercise for kids. A recent study of 1,143 children ages 3 to 18 reveals that only 15% of them are meeting the recommended levels of daily physical activity, down dramatically from 54% pre-pandemic. A lack of regular exercise can have long-term impacts. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, daily physical activity not only keeps children physically healthy—reducing the likelihood of heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes—but also improves cognitive abilities like memory and concentration, driving better academic performance.
