#SlugStories "The big thing I took away is slowing down and paying attention to the little things that are so easy to overlook, especially in this crazy, fast-paced world we're living in, where we’re rarely taught to slow down and appreciate what is around us.” __ It is not uncommon for undergraduates at UC Santa Cruz to coauthor, or contribute to, papers that appear in academic journals. It's far less common to write a book. As an undergrad at UC Santa Cruz Nathalie Martin (College Nine '17, environmental studies) authored the ‘Field Guide to Plants of UC Santa Cruz’,’ a 173-page volume filled with photographs, maps, and tips that inspire others to build their knowledge of local plants. The field guide is part of a series of natural history field guides being produced by the UCSC Campus Natural Reserve, following student-authored books about spiders, birds, fungus, slime molds, and ethnobotany.
