"Coming from a community that was plagued by violence and recently losing my sister, UC Santa Cruz was an environment where I was able to heal but also created a learning experience where I became politically activated. The programs that were offered to me as a first generation student encouraged me to truly find my passion. I was one of the first mentees of Aida Hurtado through the Chicano-Latino Resource Center and I got to travel off campus to work with students in Pescadero and learn about racial inequality first hand.
