If you quit now, what were you even fighting for? . . *Long post alert* Yesterday I did my longest trail run ever, I've run this distance before but never on trails. 20 miles/32km in 107F/42C at 1945ft elevation. It was brutal temps and at mile 7 my socket on my blade decided it was quitting due to humidity and stopped working. My leg kept sliding off and for the next 2 miles I struggled because I kept having to stop to pull my leg on again. I was frustrated and thought, why don't I just quit and go home as I was hurting. I was hot and I was totally soaked. I knew if I did quit I would regret it. I took my leg off and figured out it was soaking wet on the inside due to my sweat. Luckily I had a dry sock and used it to dry the inside and got my leg working again. The leg had caused so much rubbing on my stump, because it was loose that the rest of the run was super painful.
