🎥 + 💭: matthewunderwater Mysteries of evolution! "Welcome to the island of Bimini in the Bahamas, home to the largest of the nine hammerhead shark species: the great hammerhead! It is believed that hammerheads developed their uniquely shaped heads to help them hunt one of their favorite foods: stingrays! Their head is equipped with highly developed electromagnetic sensors which help them locate stingrays hiding in the sand and the shape of their head helps them pin them to the seabed when they attack. Great hammerhead sharks can grow up to 18 feet. It is surreal to witness these animals up close and to feel their confidence in the water. I’m grateful they allow us to spend time with them." #SharkWeek continues TONIGHT at 8p on Discovery #MarineMonday #hammerheadsharks #Bahamas
