It’s #DragonflyWeek! As indicator species, dragonflies are crucial because they help us detect small changes in the environment such as decreases in water quality or overall health of the ecosystem. They also play a significant role in the food cycle, both as predators and prey, often feeding on mosquitoes and small insects. Since 2017, Butterfly Pavilion has continued its efforts of dragonfly conservation, focusing on three species of emerald dragonflies, the American, Hudson’s, and Mountain Emerald Dragonfly. By collecting eggs and rearing them under human care, we aim to increase their population and reintroduce them to their native habitats.
