Happy World Firefly Day! This July, Butterfly Pavilion is especially excited to announce that we have successfully raised our fourth firefly larva into adulthood! Known as “Ferdinand,” this firefly has been under our care for the past two years. Research like this is vital, as there is still much to learn about fireflies. Understanding their life cycle and behaviors can help address the significant declines in their populations and guide conservation efforts. Just two weeks ago, our team ventured out to collect fireflies in Colorado to study their breeding patterns and improve our ability to raise them successfully.
