‘Very Nice’ That phrase is tattooed like a stamp somewhere on Ron Warhurst’s 80-year-old hide. Skin regenerates itself about every 27 days, but the ink runs deep and it’s in a place the sun doesn’t hit too much. It’s what Ronnie has yelled at his athletes for 50 years, followed by choice expletives that are terms of endearment. He’s part of the old guard, but his principles still resonate in the new age. He began working with Hobbs Kessler when Hobbs was 16. Steered his development as he started running with the VNTC and developed through the Covid years. Grew physically and most importantly, between the ears. The VNTC is a lively bunch and attracts the fun-loving kind. Ronnie keeps it light and things in perspective even in the big moments. Last Monday, Hobbs made the Olympic team in the 1500m, running a PR. With the monkey off his back, he played through the rounds of the 800m with his VNTC teammate & indoor gold medalist Bryce Hoppel.
