Environmental governance in Antarctica is unique...
As no nation can technically ‘own’ a piece of Antarctica, the continent is protected under the “Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty.” Since its inception in 1959, the treaty has ensured that all operations on ice leave “less than minor or transitory impact” and that Antarctica is only used for peaceful purposes.
With nearly two decades of experience in Antarctica, we continue to honour the provisions of the Antarctic Treaty in our efforts to protect this unique and sensitive environment for generations to come.
