My mom is Chinese, I grew up in Singapore, and it’s that simple. However, I became part of an industry that would, for my entire career, try to pigeon hole me because of the way I look. Not Asian enough. Not Caucasian enough. I look Latina but I’m not, so I don’t go near Latina roles anymore. I have, however, been fortunate enough to have auditioned for people who saw me for who I am and what I bring to the table, beyond my being a Chinese-Jew.
