King Kong Photo Opportunity, December 2005 – April 2007, was located in front of Back to the Future: The Ride. This replica, crafted to celebrate the film’s World Premiere on December 5, 2005, was prominently displayed in New York’s Times Square. Designed by Peter Jackson’s WETA Digital Workshop and fabricated by Gentle Giant Studios in Burbank, the figure stands over 20 feet tall and weighs nearly 6,000 pounds. Constructed from foam around an intricate steel framework, it was hard-coated and painted with over 25 gallons of paint.
