The painting of the week is "Idealized Portrait of a Woman (Female in a Turban)" by Harriet Christina Cany Peale (1800–69). Philadelphia-based Cany Peale painted this and at least one other "Idealized Portrait" that is in the collection of the Chrysler Museum. Both copies of a work by her husband, Rembrandt Peale, which is now lost, Cany Peale's own achievements in portraiture and landscape were sometimes overshadowed by her characterization as a copyist.
