Openness is a huge value for baskinengineering. While the school was named 25 years ago after local engineer and philanthropist Jack Baskin, its history goes even further back. In the late 60s, the Information and Computer Science Department was formed. The school of engineering has been growing on campus ever since — from the Genomics Institute, to the first computer game design program in the UC system. Baskin is home to the UC system’s only center designated for open-source research, so people can adopt research products and collaborate on their improvement!
