We have one remaining world championship to go in our 50th anniversary year – the World Open Equipped Powerlifting Championships in Viborg, Denmark starting on 14th November. The lightweight women’s classes will lift on day one, with the 47kg class kicking off the whole competition at 10am CET and the 52kg class lifting off at 4pm CET. Ten-time world champion, Yukako Fukushima of Japan, leads the nominations in the 47kg class. She competed at her 5th World Games in Birmingham, Alabama earlier this year, taking the gold medal for the first time. A Masters 2 lifter leading the field at the highest level like this is absolutely inspirational. Last year’s bronze medallist, Tetiana Bila of Ukraine, will be challenging her for the title this year as Poland’s light weight heavy-hitter Zuzanna Kula has moved up to the 52kg class.
