We're honored to highlight Freedom Summer activist Heather Tobis Booth!
Heather was a student at the University of Chicago when she became involved in the civil rights movement. Inspired by the sit-ins and the work of SNCC, she decided to join the Freedom Summer project. 🗳️
Heather worked in Mississippi to register Black voters and organize Freedom Schools. These schools educated Black children and adults, teaching literacy, Black history, and the principles of the civil rights movement. The goal was to build a foundation for long-term social change by educating and empowering the community. 🏫
