Grayson Highlands State Park has all of the traditional attractions that most parks have throughout the commonwealth. This park has expansive mountain ranges, many hiking trails, and fun activities for the family. But approximately half of the park’s visitors come just to see Highlands’ wild ponies. In 1975, the U.S. Forest Service released 50 ponies into Grayson Highlands State Park. The population of these equines thrived throughout the years, there are now about 150 of them, and they have grown accustomed to hikers and generally ignore people. The park strongly advises against feeding or attempting to pet these creatures, but the view of these majestic horses with the backdrop of the highlands is enough to keep visitors coming back for more." #virginia #stateparks #vastateparks
