🚨Attention NC Gardeners 🚨
Keep an eye out for the New Guinea flatworm!
The New Guinea flatworm is a quickly-spreading invasive flatworm that's been spotted in Durham, NC (2018) and Wilmington, NC (2021).
The flatworm is about 2 inches long and has a black body with a pale stripe down its back, though the stripe may not be visible in bright light. The underside is pale gray or beige in color.
Be careful not to touch these harmful worms. They can transmit parasites, and have been known to regurgitate stomach contents upon handling, causing skin irritation from their secretions.
If you see one of these invasive worms, remove it immediately and dispose of it in a sealed container!
