The “jump back drill” is one of my faves! I even do it as a slapping drill here’s why:

Being able to jump back and then swing forces my body into a great hitting position. However if I do not jump back into an athletic/hitting position, I will not be able to take an accurate & powerful swing.

Slapping! This creates the perfect “lean position” of momentum. Being able to create momentum without moving your head and remaining in slow control of your body is vital to being a good Slappernation especially when facing a pitcher that throws different speeds.

When slapping our first move is to create momentum.. many think running fast through the ball is the answer to power but it is actually control and explosiveness through the ball. The “jump back” drill forces me to make sure I Keep my head position still and to stay athletic and in my legs as I jump back.
