betterloversband, 2000 Trees Festival
REVIEW: 20 seconds into Better Lovers’ headline set at the Cave, Greg Puciato has already hoisted himself up the steel beam at the front of the stage. Two minutes later, at the climax of a pummelling ‘Become So Small’, he throws himself into the baying mob below him, and all hell breaks loose. This is standard fair for these well-travelled chaos merchants, but something feels different here. There’s an extra spring in their step, demonstrated by how viscerally they throw themselves around throughout a biblical ‘Two Alive Amongst The Dead’ and skin-crawling ‘The Flowering’. Playing like they have a point to prove, despite already having everyone in the palm of their hands, they are rewarded with a reaction that will surely leave bruises in the morning. With their ascent looking like it will only get faster from here, you can chalk this one up as a bold and brilliant victory for hardcore’s new favourite sons.
