Eighteen-year-old Muhammed Cafer and 17-year-old Muhammed Enes Yeninar were rescued from the rubble of separate buildings in Turkey on February 14, 2023, some 198 hours after last week’s devastating earthquake, Turkish defence ministry handout and Reuters footage show respectively. The disaster, with a combined death toll in Turkey and neighboring Syria exceeding 41,000, has ravaged cities in both countries, leaving many survivors homeless in near-freezing winter temperatures. Nine survivors were rescued from the rubble in Turkey, more than a week after a massive devastation struck.
