On Thursday, Mayor Whitmire welcomed officers from around Texas to Houston to assist HoustonPolice in patrolling the streets. Due to #HurricaneBeryl, Houston currently has around 1,600 streetlights out, and the darkness has caused a spike in car wrecks and crime in unlit areas. While getting our power back remains the number one priority in the city, these additional officers will alleviate the burden placed on HPD officers and help get Houston back up and running.
