District 7 City Councilmember Cecilia Lunaparra has proposed a resolution for the use of Dwight Triangle as a public open space.
Through this resolution, the median would continue to function as a gathering place for residents, but now it would benefit from official designation, Lunaparra said.
The space was recently renamed Chuck P. Herrick Peace and Freedom Memorial Park after Herrick, an environmental activist and Vietnam War veteran who died in a traffic incident in 1968. Formerly known as the Dwight Triangle, the median has been frequently used as a community space since the closure of People’s Park, the district’s only public park.
