I had a few people ask me “Well, What is Essence Fest?” As I reflected on my experience last weekend, I could not stop thinking about this question. It was legit feeling like a Shonda Rhimes cliffhanger; it just has me on edge y’all. But the more I reflected, the more it became clear, that Essence Fest is celebration of Black Joy and Black Excellence; it’s a community event. It’s almost like a huge cookout where folks are just having a great time enjoying the culture and supporting each other’s businesses while the other folks are sharing wisdom and everyone is soaking it up. Ooo yea, and it’s a celebration of music, I experienced about 20 artists in one weekend! I say this all to say, Essence Fest is an Experience.
