*SKATER STEP UPS* #PHTNATION this weeks #FitnessFriday exercise is called a skater step up. A hockey player needs to be able to efficiently accelerate and decelerate throughout the course of a game while producing as much power as possible within those movements. Your ability to produce power in those situations is what separates fast players from players that can WHEEL. This exercise is great for developing lower body power, balance, and coordination. Step 1: Using a 1-2 foot box or bench depending on your height (1 foot for under 5’6, 1.5 feet for under 6’, 2 feet for over 6’). Step 1 foot onto the box/bench with the other foot on the ground lined up behind the foot on the bench. Step 2: Standing up straight, pickup the foot on the bench a couple inches and (with force) drive that foot into the bench and bring your whole body up onto that foot and “stepping” up onto the bench.
