I was deeply honored to capture footage of Maria Rosario Jackson, Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts and Erika Mallin, during their visit to Buffalo. The tragic events of May 14, 2022, have left an indelible mark on our community, but initiatives like “Blues Memorial”, catalyzed by a Special Leadership grant from the NEA, offers hope and healing. This project, led by artists Brendan Bannon , Brandon Watson and other facilitores in collaboration with CEPA Gallery, uses the cyanotype technique to create a powerful, two-mile-long banner on Jefferson Avenue. It features 12x6-inch flags adorned with quotes , illustrations, , and messages of healing, created by students during workshops. It was a poignant moment to see Jackson & Mallin sit quietly with the students as they crafted these symbols of resilience.
