A common myth out there is the idea that allowing transgender women to access gender-specific domestic violence and other shelters will pose a threat to the cisgender women in those spaces. This falsehood is not backed by data, yet it persists. We do know that transgender women who are forced to utilize male-specific housing and shelters face high rates of physical and sexual violence in those spaces. Transgender and non-binary people are the victims of violence at higher percentages than their cisgender counterparts, but they are also less likely to go to law enforcement or seek out supportive services. ⠀ ⠀ Heartly House understands that Frederick will only be a safe place when it is a safe place for everyone, and that is why *all* our services, including our emergency shelter, are free and available to anyone who lives in Frederick County.⠀ Call us when you need us. We'll be here. ⠀ ⠀ #HeartlyHouse #SafeWithHeartly #Pride #TransRightsAreHumanRights
