Berkeley City Council voted July 9 to condemn illegal actions and unfair labor practices by the UC system against its employees, following the end of an academic worker strike against the university in late June.
District 7 Councilmember Cecilia Lunaparra authored and introduced the resolution, hoping to set a precedent on labor laws for both the city and state. She claimed the university had “unilaterally changed” working conditions for academic workers without consulting union UAW 4811, as well as permitted violence against protesting workers at UCLA and UC San Diego in early May.
