Life off The Track: Arties Silver Mine
Margaux Farm is dedicated to taking care of the horses who have given us so much, and our staff spends a lot of time finding good homes for our retired runners or those who aren’t quite cut out to be racehorses. Arties Silver Mine is one of those horses who has found his forever home and here’s his brief story:
A $100,000 yearling purchase from the 2013 Keeneland September Sale, Artie raced for Jim and Susan Hill from the age of 3 to 6, winning three races and earning $112,161. Former Hagyards tech Margaret Becker fell for the big bay gelding while he was at Margaux on one of his breaks and when the time came for Artie to be retired, we reached out to her to see if she would be willing to adopt him. Her response was an instant “Yes!” and Artie was soon on his way to her farm in North Carolina.
