A hallmark of our undergraduate concentration is the junior policy task force: Students address unfinished questions of public policy, often characterized by rapidly changing circumstances. At the end of the semester, SPIA task forces present their research findings to policy leaders. Recently, Amb. Rick Barton’s class, Peacebuilding and Systemic Change, met with Amb. Rosemary A. DiCarlo, the unitednations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA). “It was a fulsome exchange framed around DPPA’s own strategic plan for improvement. The students offered innovative ideas that they applied to violent situations from Yemen, Mexico, Myanmar, Ukraine, Rio de Janeiro, South Africa, Ethiopia, Colombia, and Afghanistan,” Barton said.
