#WooWho: “I grew up on an apricot orchard in rural #California and had a fun childhood exploring the outdoors. I was pretty young when my parents received a letter from a law firm — informing us our well water was contaminated. They wanted me to read it for them. I didn’t understand what it meant; I just knew it seemed serious. A nearby defense company was dumping toxic chemicals that were seeping into the groundwater. It took almost ten years to settle with the company. My mother developed critical health issues; and I still can’t help but think there’s a link. I’ve come to realize that was the moment I began to understand the importance of #education and public #policy. My parents didn’t know who to reach out to for help or what to do. I just remember thinking, ‘How is this allowed to happen? How are there no repercussions?
