#WooWho: “When I’m scared, I think of my grandma. And I channel my ‘Big Grandma Energy.’ She was quarantined without her consent because of tuberculosis. Her parents were immigrants who didn’t speak English and didn’t know what they were signing. She spoke with me about this often, and it was formative in shaping my life’s work. I think a lot about how public health and bodily autonomy reconcile. Being self-isolated because of #COVID19, this is coming up for me. I think the pandemic is showing us in neon flashing lights that we all do better when we *all* do better. Right now, students are experiencing displacement, disruption, and confusion. But as current and future policymakers, we should also see that our only limitations are collective imagination and political will. As the #coronavirus spreads, policies are being changed quickly to protect people. We are learning this is possible. We are seeing now more than ever why policy matters. It’s about life and death.
