#WooWho: “In 2004 I was on my way to Dubai for work and the tsunami hit Southeast Asia. I had about a month before my next job so I volunteered for an Italian NGO in Sri Lanka. My undergraduate study was in business but after that first deployment I knew I wanted to continue working in international development and on humanitarian programs. Humanitarian aid – helping people recover from crises – felt like a much more rewarding career. I wanted to bring skills from my business background to deliver better aid programs. The contexts we work in are not the easiest, and programs are often difficult to implement, yet the impact of good and well-run programs can be huge: whether it’s reconstructed communities after the tsunami, local economic development in Zimbabwe, or providing health care in conflict zones in Yemen.
