As the Hemingway documentary just aired on PBS, some of the West Bloomfield High School Literary Club members were inspired to answer the Kids Garden Month prompt "What do you love about your garden?" in the form of a six word story. {Audio: Literary Garden: planting seeds, reaping inspiration.} The West Bloomfield High School Literary Club Garden houses plants from American authors’ homes and works to provide a multi sensory setting for student learning. It includes Ernest Hemingway's mint from Horton Bay, MI; hydrangeas from Kurt Vonnegut's home in Barnstable, MA; local rosemary as requested by acclaimed poet and Civil Rights activist Nikki Giovanni; yellow Harrison's roses from Emily Dickinson's home in Amherst, MA; white bearded irises from Flannery O'Connor's farm in GA; a pear tree in honor of Zora Neale Hurston's seminal work Their Eyes Were Watching God, and so much more!
