The Greek Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist at Bethany Beyond the Jordan, Jordan. October, 2017.⁠ •⁠ Have you ever been somewhere that you just *knew* was holy? Near the Jordan River crossing, where you can wave at pilgrims in Israel who you can probably play catch with, sits a Greek Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist. The air inside the church was still and quiet except for when the church attendant turned the page of his reading material. Sunlight pierced through the narrow stained glass windows illuminating the bright blue painted walls with icons and images all bursting with color. ⁠ Someone had just lit incense and the smoke rose up, dancing through a sunbeam. If you’re quiet, you can hear the Jordan River rustle past its banks, or the cheers of a group renewing their baptismal vows riverside.
