“You deserve peace.” • This phrase has been on my mind ever since covering the prayer vigil for #SantaFeHighSchool shooting victims, survivors, family and community members at Our Lady of Lourdes, a parish just six miles from the school. 10 teens carried 10 candles down the church aisle. 10 portraits and 10 white roses remembered the 10 lives lost that day. I don’t think those teens ever imagined walking down for these 10 reasons. It was a sobering day, May 30. Tears streamed down the teens eyes as they lifted the candles heavenward. It’s taken me a week to begin to process what I experienced that night, the 10 teens and another, an actual survivor wounded that morning, just sharing knowing looks. They were there that day, and it won’t ever be the same. You. Deserve. Peace.
