Ella Charbonnet ’25 was one of 20 students who participated in the Trinity In Italy program this summer. The Trinity In Italy program introduces students to the complex and diverse city of ancient Rome, with a particular focus on the religious experience of its inhabitants. Students learn about the development of the city built in the late Republic and early Empire and the ways in which ancient religious practice impacted the built environment. Through a combination of readings and visits to archaeological sites and museums in Rome and its surroundings, they learn to locate emerging Jewish and Christian literature, ideas, and debates within Roman imperial social and religious practices, institutions, and ideology. Students stay in apartments sponsored by IES Study Abroad, where they get the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the culture and city living of Rome.
