Ten Trinity students are in Paraguay this month as part of the University’s new faculty-led Paraguay: Health and the Environment program. The group, led by professors Richard Reed and Alfred Montoya, touched down in Asunción, Paraguay’s capital city, last Monday and spent the week exploring the countryside and learning about organic farming practices. This week they visited the Aché indigenous people of southeast Paraguay, traveled to the San Rafael Natural Reserve, and they’re currently spending time in the city of Encarnación before heading back this weekend. “Our students are learning about the many ways people in Paraguay are dealing with economic growth and environmental degradation,” says Katsuo Nishikawa, director of Trinity’s Center for International Engagement. “We are learning from indigenous communities how they live and how we have much to learn from their sustainable practices.” This study abroad trip is part of the “International Issues in Health and Environment” socio...
