But that’s why we race. We don’t race because it’s easy. We race for the thrill of using our bodies, pushing our bodies and, for the marathon especially, pushing our minds. I said that this would be my last marathon. But when i got to the start at the bridge I thought, “maybe it’s not my last. How could i give this up? The training is worth it.” I get to Brooklyn, the Park Slope parties filled me with SO much runners high I didn’t know whether I wanted to jump out and just hang with the Brooklynites or take back my “last marathon” affirmation. Then Queens & all its nostalgia with running through my old neighborhood, mentally prepping for the bridge ahead of me. “You’ve done this. You end every run on the same hill in DC.
