When having open-heart surgery, does one dictate to the surgeon how it should be done and with what tools? When ordering at a restaurant, does one instruct the chef on what recipe to follow? When a root canal must be performed, is it up to the patient to tell the dentist what tools to use and dictate exactly how long the procedure should take? The obvious answer to these questions is no. Procedures are in place for a reason. Certain tools are utilized for a reason. As planners, we are responsible for ensuring accuracy and the success of all key players. As such, we have certain procedures in place and even templates that we use to obtain the information necessary to do our jobs.
