"About a year after Nick and I got married, we tried to have a baby. When I didn’t get pregnant in a few months, I began tracking my cycles. After a year, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Carolyn Kubik (now retired), a reproductive endocrinology specialist at the Magee-Womens Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology in Penn Hills.
Nick and I took it as a good sign when I found out I was pregnant just after our consultation with Dr. Kubik. The first ultrasound at 9 weeks was heartbreaking, though, because our baby no longer had a heartbeat.
In January, I had a very early miscarriage. In May 2020, we tried again and an ultrasound at five weeks looked good, but the next ultrasound showed an empty gestational sac. Each loss was emotionally exhausting, but we truly wanted to have a baby.
