We're bidding longtime UPMC K9 Axel a happy retirement. To celebrate Axel’s friendship, dedication, and career, UPMC Police and Security services are gathering dog and cat food donations for several local animal organizations, including Ellie's Pet Pantry of harpsaveslives, Sable’s Kennels, and thestreetdogcoalition Pittsburgh. These local groups are dedicated to feeding hungry animals — a cause close to Axel’s heart. You can drop off food donations at the UPMC Police and Security offices at UPMC Presbyterian (ES129 at the UPMC Presbyterian South Tower) in Axel’s honor. In his retirement, Axel will be promoted to the rank of sergeant and continue living with his handler, Lt. Glenn Brunelle. He’ll be enjoying plenty of long naps and belly scratches in retirement.
