UPMC Hamot became the first hospital in the country to adopt minimally invasive robotic bronchoscopy technology, thanks in large part to Stephen Kovacs, DO, chief, Division of Pulmonary Medicine and co-director, UPMC Hamot Comprehensive Lung Center. Through his leadership and commitment to clinical excellence and innovation, UPMC Hamot invested in the Monarch Platform, used in the diagnosis of #lungcancer. UPMC Hamot's oncology care team and Dr. Kovacs recently realized an important milestone by completing more than 600 #roboticbronchoscopy cases since the hospital first brought the technology online in 2018. That figure ranks second among all hospitals nationally with respect to patient volumes. Monarch combines #robotic controls, small instruments, and an endoscope design to help physicians, like Dr. Kovacs, more effectively find hard-to-reach lung #nodules, resulting in more precise and accurate biopsies — and lives saved.
