For two years, 18-year-old Eva Morgan experienced daily headaches, extreme pressure in the back of her head, and numbness and tingling in her hands and feet. Eva was diagnosed with a Chiari malformation, a condition in which the space at the bottom back of the skull is smaller than it should be, causing the cerebellum and the brainstem to be pushed downward. The pressure on the cerebellum can block the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and cause an array of symptoms like Eva experienced. UPMC neurosurgeon Dr. Robert Friedlander operated on Eva and helped her return to her normal life.
