Sharon Ann-Romano Fitzgerald, MD, Gynecological Oncology at UPMC Central Pa., was formerly a major in the U.S. Army. Most recently, she was a chief of gynecologic oncology at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC. "I served 8 years of active duty time as a military physician. My time in the military showed me the passion, dedication, and the sacrifices that all military members endure whether it be during training or active mobilization stateside and/or overseas. Also it showed me the sacrifices that the military families endure during times of their loved ones deployment. Veterans Day reminds me of all those that have served and continue to serve to protect our freedoms.
