Renowned American sculptor Alexander Calder was born today in 1898! In honor of Calder’s birthday, take a look back at his BMW 3.0 CSL - the first of our BMW Art Car series 🏎️ 🎈 Calder’s legendary BMW Art Car originated in aeronautics. In 1974, French auctioneer and racecar driver Hervé Poulain visited Calder’s studio in Saché, France. BMW and Poulain commissioned Calder to paint a BMW for the 24 Heures du Mans race in 1975; the result was broad swathes of primary colors across the BMW 3.0 CSL and a momentous collaboration that initiated the beloved BMW Art Car program — a prestigious crossover into the art world. #BMWArtCar #AlexanderCalder calderfoundation 📸: 1 and 2.
